Is Mariah Carey Irrelevant?

Mariah Carey has had a lot of success since the beginning of her career. She was very popular for more than 20 years and she keeps on breaking records! Despite all that, certain people, the younger generation in particular, often discredit her and call her irrelevant. Is that true though?

Mariah Carey has been in the spotlight for approximately 3 decades, so it is natural that she would not be as popular as she was in her prime. After Mariah left Sony back in 2001, she faced her first commercial failure, something that caused a lot of controversy regarding her career and whether or not she would make it on her own

As we all know, Mariah made her comeback with "The Emancipation of Mimi" regaining her popularity. That situation went on for 5 more years until Mariah gave birth and kind of disappeared from the public eye.

Her next album, albeit great, was not supported efficiently by her label and thus it didn't have much impact in the charts or the general public. Together with some bad performances, Mariah was frequently mocked by the media and people who claimed she had lost her voice. All these are reasons why she is not as popular as before, however, taking into account her sales and chart success in comparison with other singers of her caliber and years in the business, it is obvious that the Elusive Chanteuse is not as irreleveant as many people "Jlo and Nicki fans"
